Patient Care
University Psychiatry at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana is the foremost leader in psychiatric care in the Ark-La-Tex region. Psychiatric services are provided to more than 15,000 patients annually by faculty physicians, residents and staff placing special emphasis on the finest patient care. The LSUHCS-S campus anchors a family of clinics and hospitals which include E.A. Conway Medical Center in Monroe and Huey P. Long Medical Center in Pineville. Our psychiatric programs include Outpatient treatment, Psychiatric Crisis Inpatient treatment, and extended Inpatient Psychiatric treatment.
Education
Our elite faculty is dedicated to the education of tomorrow's psychiatrist's through our residency and fellowship programs. The psychiatric educational program includes General, and Child - Adolescent Residency as well as Fellowships in Forensic, Psychosomatic, and Sleep. University Psychiatry faculty specialize in a variety of clinical areas such as adult, child and adolescent, forensic, psychosomatic, psychodynamic, and psychopharmacological research. We believe that tomorrow's psychiatrists should be trained in multiple theoretical approaches and practical clinical skills which can be applied to many types of patients. This requires a diverse faculty and numerous training sites with different clinical populations.
Research
University Psychiatry has been involved in clinical research for over 17 years and continues to support a vigorous research initiative. It is our mission to seek new ways to treat and prevent psychiatric illness through efficient and safe research which actively involves the public and community. The Department of Psychiatry believes that a diverse population with unique needs may benefit from the study of mental health issues. With a focus on the patient, we are dedicated to understanding the basis of mental illnesses through compassionate care and precision analysis using various investigational tools. Our primary goals are to provide patients with competent and compassionate care and to expand medical knowledge through research both in the lab and in a clinical setting.
