Welcome to the virtual site for the Psychopharmacology Research Clinic within the Department of Psychiatry at LSU Health Shreveport! Our clinic has grown tremendously over the past decade and is proud to have made strides in the treatment of mental illness. The Psychopharmacology Research Clinic has a three-fold purpose:
1. To identify and evaluate the latest compounds and potential treatment options for all mental illnesses treated at LSU Health Shreveport. You can be assured that your healthcare team remains at the cutting edge of technology.
2. To educate medical students, graduate students, junior faculty and physicians within all medical specialties about the importance of clinical research. This education ultimately improves their diagnostic and planning skills, allows better examination of the available literature and helps healthcare workers to ensure scientific assessment of disease and potential treatments.
3. To provide community education to Northwest Louisiana and surrounding areas about mental health and increase awareness of the severity of depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, attention deficit disorder, Alzheimer's disease, drug abuse and the like. Five of the top ten causes of mortality and morbidity in the world are mental illnesses. Mental illness is universal and found in our families, neighbors and friends, and can impair one's ability to achieve their goals.
We take our responsibilities in the Psychopharmacology Research Unit very seriously and would love for you to learn more about what we do. Come visit our Clinic or call us to find out more about what we do and how you can help find better treatments for future sufferers of mental illness.
